Hi there! We are the Gallaghers! Dennis is a retired Marine and Tammy, a retired nurse. Our kids are all grown and have each fledged the nest, so we are now focused on creating a magical place to spend the rest of our lives together, while juggling our secondary day jobs.
We started tinkering with a few 'regular' chickens back in 2010 and that quickly evolved into the acquisition of 'fancy' chickens. It only took a few years before chicken math got the better of us, especially after Tammy was bit by the 'breed the perfect silkie' bug. Her love for rainbow eggs came along shortly after, and well- as they say- The Rest is History!!! She is now a bonafide hatchaholic with just enough scientific background, and curiosity of genetics, to get her into some seriously planned out TROUBLE!!! All kidding aside, hatching healthy happy birds has become a wonderful and exciting adventure for us both! But we didn't stop there!!! The itch to have goats soon got a hold of us, and we could not fight it off. Being 2 city slickers certainly did not lend us to jumping off the deep end when it came to being responsible "goat-farmers," so Tammy spent nearly a year researching breeds, nutrition, parasite management, housing, and husbandry in general. We finally decided on and purchased our first Nigerian Dwarf babies in 2016 and we were HOOKED. They really are the sweetest, most perfect, 4-legged farm creatures you could ever imagine. And Oh MY Goodness...THE MILK! Best Bonus Ever!
Between the multiplying 2 legged and 4 legged critters, it didn't take long to realize that our newly found passion was quickly outgrowing our available outdoor space. With all the human kids grown and gone, it was time to find a smaller house with more land! 7 months of searching for our definition of perfect planted us right here in Paige Texas, on 13 beautiful acres! We have been working hard since the summer of 2019 to establish Shady Paddock Farm. It has been non-stop designing, building, fixing, tweaking... it seems to never end, but boy is it rewarding!!!!
We absolutely love what we have created, and are so excited to share it with you. It may be a stay in our Willow House Cottage, a visit to experience our morning chores routine, receiving a wonderful bar of goat milk soap or fertilized eggs in the mail, or coming to pick up a new goat or feathered family member-whatever the experience, we hope it is as wonderful for you as what we enjoy here everyday.
