Nigerian Dwarf Goats 4 Sale
Please note- our goats are all social and are used to human companionship. We are looking for homes that will provide some degree of human interaction, which we believe is important to staying on top of their health and well-being. If you feel that you are up to providing that, please read the info below and fill out the short questionnaire linked in the 'Purchase Info' section.
After taking a look at your answers, I will be in touch to chat =)

*WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO RETAIN ANY KID BORN ON OUR FARM, wait-list for kids will be filled after we have made selections*
KID INFO-Our does are rotated to kid only once a year, and kidding typically happens in late winter/early spring. Kids are dam raised, and are available for pick-up at 10-12 weeks of age when they are weaned. All kids are disbudded, if they are not naturally hornless (polled.) They also receive a CD/T vaccine and booster and an additive to their feed (called Bioworma) that helps to minimize the spread and ingestion of intestinal parasites during high risk times of the year. They have loose minerals, hay, baking soda, and free range pasture/browse available as well. All kids will have a modified mcmaster fecal test before leaving the farm and will be placed on medicated feed at least 1 week prior to pick-up date to help prevent stress induced overgrowth of coccidia. We encourage you to keep them on this feed for at least 4-6 weeks. All registered kids are tattooed for ID purposes, per registry guidelines.
CASTRATION INFO- our bucklings are castrated using the Burdizzo method. This is a bloodless/closed castration method and the testicles/scrotum do not fall off. In our opinion, this is the most humane method and carries the lowest risk for infection. When done correctly, the Burdizzo Method is very effective. The boys are castrated at 10 weeks of age and are required to stay for 2 weeks after castration so that we may observe obvious shrinkage of the testicles, telling us that the procedure was successful.
ADULT INFO-Adults have regular hoof trims and FAMACHA scoring, modified mcmaster fecal tests are done as needed, annual CD/T vaccines, have access to pasture during the day & hay 24/7. Feed/grain supplementation is offered according to the individual's nutritional needs and requirements. They are also on Bioworma during high load times of the year to minimize the spread and intake of intestinal parasites while grazing pasture. Purina Goat or SweetLix Meat Maker loose minerals and baking soda are available free choice and COWP, Zinc, and BoSe supplements are administered as recommended by our veterinarian. Adults are tested for CAE, CL, Brucellosis, and Johne's, and we have started a testing rotation for Q Fever. With the occasional exception of adding a buck from a tested herd, our herd is CLOSED.
DEWORMING PRACTICES- We practice responsible deworming here at Shady Paddock Farm. That means that we NEVER do routine deworming of any kind. Our goats receive dewormers only when they are indicated per FAMACHA / 5 point checks. When we NEED a dewormer, we want it to WORK! Please educate yourself about dewormer resistance, and the huge problem it is becoming in many goat herds across the US. If you would like to learn more detailed information about management of goat parasites, please consider my FAMACHA Certification Workshop.
FARM VISITS- Anyone interested in purchasing a goat from us is welcome to visit our farm and see our herd. Shoe covers and hand sanitizer are required before entering our paddocks, and will be provided.
