SALE BARN
We raise DAIRY GOATS. If we want milk, we must have babies- that's the way nature programmed it! While we would LOVE to keep every baby born on our farm, it's just not practical. This means that we typically have kids, and sometimes adults, available each spring and fall. We have registered and unregistered goats and all breedings are controlled. Every animal on our property is considered family and are treated as such. They receive lots of attention and care.
*PLEASE NOTE THAT WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO RETAIN ANY KID BORN ON OUR FARM, wait-list for kids will be filled after we have made selections*
KID INFO-Our does are rotated to kid only once a year, and are separated into spring and fall kidding groups. Kids are dam raised, and are available for pick-up at 10-12 weeks of age when they are weaned. All kids are disbudded, if they are not naturally hornless (polled.) They also receive a CD/T vaccine and booster and are on a diet that discourages intestinal parasites. They have minerals, hay, and free range pasture available as well. All kids will have a modified mcmaster fecal test before leaving the farm and will be placed on medicated feed 1 week prior to pick-up date to help prevent stress induced overgrowth of coccidiosis. We encourage you to keep them on this feed for at least 4-6 weeks. Registered kids are tattooed.
ADULT INFO-Adults have regular hoof trims and FAMACHA scoring, fecals at least twice a year, annual CD/T vaccines, have access to pasture during the day & hay 24/7, and are on a pellet diet that discourages intestinal parasites. They also receive SweetLix Meat Maker loose minerals as well as COWP and BoSe supplements as recommended by our veterinarian. Adults are tested for CAE, Brucellosis, CL, and Johne's. With the occasional exception of adding a buck from a tested herd, our herd is CLOSED.
*We practice responsible deworming here at Shady Paddock Farm. That means that we NEVER do routine deworming of any kind. Our goats receive dewormers only when they are indicated. When we NEED a dewormer, we want it to WORK! Please educate yourself about dewormer resistance.
